Welcome to 2049, here is the Octogone, our retro-futuristic watch. Its steel (silver) version is dedicated to the « Ivy League » boys among us.
Here we have optimized the immense potential of this Kelton model from the late 70s. First of all by redesigning its case, now equipped with a Seagull 1632 automatic day/date movement. Its hands (hours and minutes) treated with Superluminova have become luminescent, last but not least, we used a sapphire crystal and this little automatic bomb is now resistant to a pressure of 10 ATM.
The Octogone is, since the question of the future has haunted the world of film, the shape of just about every object to come. This goes from doors (in the corridors of ships) to the ships themselves, through architecture, robots ... Hence this wave of octagonal models appearing at the end of the Space Age decade (70's), with many watchmakers including Kelton, there are hundreds of them.
Did you know?
Where does this octagonal shape come from? Why do we keep coming back to it?
As Mr. Singh explains in his insightful article: Pieces of eight: watches celebrating the octagonal form*. The success of the octagon is due to the fact that when you combine the two most common (watch) shapes, circle and rectangle, you get (by following the contours of the circle as closely as possible while drawing a minimum number of sides): an octagon. The octagon is thus a shape born from the association of two elementary shapes and in this sense, it embodies the idea of the future.
